30/ 30/ 30 The Art of Tori Weyers

Self Published book 2012

Artist Statement

Art is a part of my everyday life, I make space to create daily and to explore the elements of – color, shape, line and texture. I am inspired by the past and I pull elements from vintage ephemera in combination with line, pattern and scale to create my work. These elements combined with contemporary colors and compositions I create a harmonious conversation between yesterday and today. I look at colors, shapes and textures in the world as well. The roots of trees as they twist over the dry earth and weathered wood turned grey by the cold Indiana winters and hot humid summers. Cracked sidewalks with tiny flowering weeds breaking through. Graffitied walls and signs altered by unseen human hands. All surfaces affected by age and time. I also look at formal art in many different mediums and marvel at the infinite ways in which materials are used to create rich and expressive visual statements.
