Finding Inspiration and my Sketchbook

July 21, 2016

The internet is a wonderful place, filled with so much visual eye candy and opportunity for inspiration. There are a few sites I visit on a regular basis to get a fun and unusual prompt or to see whats hot in design, packaging, fashion etc. Everyone is aware of the plethora of creative inspiration available on Pinterest (thats my Pinterest inspiration board) but what about some inspiration out in the further reaches of the internet? Below are some of my personal favorite go to places for inspiration and a fun sketchbook process illustration. Inspiration awaits!

NOTCOT.ORG is a community of creatives, design lovers, and trendsetters - it serves as the studio bulletin board gone digital - each image and caption brings you to a place worth visiting. It's about sharing what inspires you. Bookmarks, to. make you read, search and think. This is the PICTUREBOOK to their novel. NOTCOT.COM is the editorial face of NOTCOT, offering in-depth features on products, artists, technology, innovation, and up-and-coming trends.

A whole archive of NOTCOT awaits you and you could get lost clicking, searching and enjoying!

Brain Pickings

Brain Pickings is Maria Popova's one-woman labor of love — a subjective lens on what matters in the world and why. Founded in 2006 as a weekly email that went out to seven friends and eventually brought online, the site was included in the Library of Congress permanent web archive in 2012.

This site is amazing because it is thought provoking and creative. This site spans topics of art, science, psychology, design, philosophy, history, politics, anthropology, and more!

Illustration Friday

Illustration Friday is a weekly art challenge site. It is super fun to do and very inspiring! It also happens to be an eye-catching blog and a lively, supportive online community that has been growing since 2003. Every Friday a new topic is posted and you have one week to submit your own illustration to our online gallery and see what everyone else is sharing too!

I love using the prompts from Illustration Friday in my sketchbook. The themes from week to week are very different and always present an interesting challenge. The Prompt on Friday July 15th was Stomach so I decided a little junk food monster was perfect for this prompt. Below is my illustration process and finished page.

Hope you enjoyed this post and I hope I brought a little extra inspiration to your day. I would love to hear your favorite places to find inspiration! Feel free to add a comment below or tag me on Instagram @DrawRiot

Until next time. Keep creating!

XOXO -Tori
