My husband, son and I went for a bike ride into Broad Ripple so we could get out do some sketching and painting from life and enjoy the day. Everyone was out biking, running, walking, eating and generally enjoying the sunshine and cool breezes but I let my son known today is just not an extra day off work or the unofficial start to the summer this day is meaningful and has roots in the history of our country. Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the the country's armed forces. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.
Both of my grandfathers, my husbands father and my husbands aunt served this country and defended the freedom that we enjoy today. I wanted to take a moment today to remember all those who have sacrificed so much so that we can live in a place where we can all have a voice and the ability to live free.
Todays #DrawRiotDaily prompt was "flag" so I incorporated the American flag into my page for the day. I have included a reference shot and a few extra shots from the day so you can see my process. I used the Mab Graves edition Alvin Mechanical pencil, Greenleaf & Blueberry handmade watercolor set and a XS Pitt Artist Pen for this page. I hope you found some time to be creative as well!
Until Next Time! Keep Creating!
XOXO - Tori
