As an artist its important to me continue to push myself in new ways and to get out into my community and support the arts. The art community here in Indy has been growing quickly over the last few years and new events are popping up all the time! There were actually 3 different events this weekend focused on the arts in three different communities. I joined 2 of them on Saturday and it definitely made for a crazy creative fun filled day!

In the morning I joined in on an event called Masterpiece in a Day which is part of Art Squared. Since 2011, Art Squared has grown to become one of Indianapolis’ largest annual celebrations of the arts. Organized by the Fountain Square Arts Council, Art Squared is sponsored by the Fountain Square Merchants Association. Masterpiece in a Day is a day-long art and writing competition, where locals, professional artists, students, neighbors, and friends create works of art to be judged for cash prizes. It's free to participate and open to the public – all I had to do was bring my favorite supplies and start creating.

Check out this little video of me creating out in the middle of the street right by the fountain in downtown fountain square!

In the evening  I attended Nickelplate Arts 5th Anniversary Party, I was a Meijer Najm showcase artist and I had a large abstract piece in their anniversary celebration show I also donated a piece of art and I was so happy to see the person that won it was really excited! Nickelplate celebrated community achievements in local art and philanthropy by presenting a series of awards that recognize artists and arts patrons who have helped to shape the arts in Hamilton County.

Below are a few shots from the evening.

I wish I could have made it to the other event in Carmel but alas there are only 24 hours in a day!

What kind of art events are popping up in your community? I would love to hear about how the arts are growing and being celebrated everywhere so leave a comment or a link to a local event you love below and don't forget to grab your sketchbook and go out and join in!

Until next time! Enjoy your creative Journey!

XOXO - Tori
