July - A month of celebration, fun and heading west.
For me and Chris July is a going to be a month of finding balance again... Life seems to just get more and more busy. We are getting back into running and eating healthier and I am using the Life Cycle app (You can see June below) to track where my time is going. I am also using Sleep Cycle to figure out what all the binge watching of TV is doing to my sleeping patterns and of course I am working on getting back into the studio more.
I am trying to bring limited supplies with me traveling so I can just quickly create and just enjoy the moment without feeling like I need to set up an entire studio. I decided on watercolor, gouache, colored pencils and some pens and brushes and a few sketchbooks. That might sound like a lot but trust me I typically carry a tub of stuff wit me so this is a definite change.
I have also been trying to just sketch from observation more, its quick helps with my observational skill and gets me into that nice meditative creative flow quickly because you have to focus. Here is a recent page I did while testing out supplies I wanted to bring traveling.
I love how quickly watercolor illustrations come to life and how free you can be with lines, color and marks and how expressive your subject can be. Check out the July Prompts below and see if you can create something extra expressive with this months colors!
For July I choose the theme Freedom because July not only has independence day on July 4th its also a month when summer is in full swing and they days stretch out and summer vacations are happening and life can feel more free and full of spirit and possibility.
Remember to let yourself explore and challenge yourself to not only create every day but experiment with your supplies and your process. Part of being an artist is just making art not everything has to be "beautiful", "perfect" or "art" the process is just as important if not more important than the product!
#DrawRiotDaily July 2019
This year my daily challenge is about making room for you and enjoying the process of creative exploration.
Detail details details!
• Each month will have a main theme word along with 3 key words to spark your creative fire.
• A set of colors that you can use as a jumping off point.
